The Northern Regional Alliance (NRA) was formally established in 2013 by the Northern Region District Health Boards. The Alliance is an amalgamation of two former companies, the Northern DHB Support Agency Limited (NDSA) and the Northern Regional Training Hub (NoRTH).
The NRA undertakes activities to support the four Northern Region District Health Boards (DHBs) – Northland, Waitemata, Auckland and Counties Manukau DHBs, in their implementation of Government health policies and Ministerial priorities as directed by the DHBs and approved by the NRA Board. In particular, the NRA:

In all instances, the accountability of the NRA is directly to the DHBs it provides services for, with the NRA Board being the key governance vehicle.
The establishment of the NRA aligns with the regional commitment to focus on those services that will deliver the greatest gain from regional alignment, whilst also bearing in mind the need to maintain local responsiveness and capability to meet local health needs.
