Equity is one of our 3 Regional Focus Areas and we are committed to improving health outcomes and access. We will have a focus on those populations with poor health outcomes and inequitable access to health care, or whose housing, income and education is inadequate to support good health. This applies particularly to Māori and Pacific people in our region. We will also continue to progress initiatives to address the needs of other disadvantaged groups such as non-English speaking background populations from Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and African groups.
We will drive equity improvement work through
- Systematic identification of disparities evident in each Regional Priority Area
- Planning relevant activities to reduce these disparities in order to achieve health equity for those populations
- Complementing and enhancing the existing planning mechanisms to ensure appropriate engagement and alignment of regional and local equity activities
